TELEHEALTH
Is it Right for Me?

Access to quality mental healthcare is often a challenge for many, and telehealth is one way the mental health field has added supports to minimize some of these barriers to access. If you aren't sure what telehealth is, this is an online-based approach to attending your healthcare services. If you aren't able to make it to an in-office counseling appointment --whether because of location, transportation, scheduling challenges, etc.-- then telehealth may be right for you! Consult with TICC office administrators or your TICC mental health clinician to discuss any concerns. Also make sure you are prepared with the right technology. Read more below for 3 Tips for Using Telehealth to help with understanding the different technology facets involved.

At TICC, we use an online and app-based platform that links you to a private, confidential and HIPAA compliant video call where you will meet with one of TICC's mental health clinicians. You can join this video call on your computer by following the link provided in your email or text message notification. You can also download the app to Android or Apple smart phones or tablets:

3 Tips for Using Telehealth

#1: Accept
Appointment Reminder Notifications & Never Forget an Appointment!

The most important tip to follow is to make sure you've granted TICC permission to send your appointment reminders (email, SMS, or both) from the online client portal. You can ask TICC office admin when scheduling your appointments to make sure they add this useful reminder feature to your client profile.

#2: Download
Telehealth by SimplePractice
app & join your therapy video call more conveniently!

Once you have accepted and received your appointment reminder notification, you can select the telehealth video call link. If you wish to use your smart phone or tablet, you can download the Telehealth by SimplePractice or you can continue to join the video call on your computer.

#3: Plan
your Telehealth location & have peace of mind your session is private and successful!

You should experience your telehealth counseling appointment exactly as you would for an in-office appointment. We want to make sure your telehealth counseling experience is of the best quality, which includes:

  • Having a safe, private, and confidential space to talk about your experiences, thoughts, feelings, goals, successes, upsets, dreams...

  • Having your counselor's undivided attention and they being able to have yours. :)

    • If you are a car... sometimes that's the only private spot. We can still hold our telehealth appointment as long as you are parked in a safe location, you inform your counselor where you are in case of emergency, and you are able to effectively engage with your on-screen counselor.

  • Being able to see and hear your counselor clearly without any environmental distractions or technology interferences.

    • If you are in public, make sure that the environment is conducive for counseling, like a park or an empty office space -- so no loud backgrounds unless you have noise canceling ear/head phones; no other folks present unless you authorize them to be present and are actively participating with you in your session.

  • Having access to appropriate supports (like an ESA or authorized person for planned sessions) and comforts (like fidget toys, blanket, or cup of tea or coffee)
